Great American Rail-Trail GPS Tracks

Hiking America's Free GPS tracks for the full Great American Rail-Trail, Washington, D.C., to Washington State.

Great American — Trails (GPX, 6.8mb)

Great American — Gap Trails (GPX, 4.7mb)

Great American — Hiker Alternates (GPX, 4.7mb)

The tracks cover 2,100 miles of existing trail connected by roughly 1,670 miles of gap trails, plus hiker-only alternatives. Wyoming has the highest percentage of gaps of any state on the route, so we built a Hiker Alternate from Shoshoni, Wyoming, through Yellowstone to Butte, Montana, mostly along the Continental Divide Trail, to reduce road miles.

The files open in Gaia GPS, Google Earth, or any app that reads GPX.
