Buckeye Trail Reroute Reminder

It has been one of our long-standing mantras - "Trails are living beings – constantly changing and improving upon themselves." We pride ourselves on efforting to keep up with those changes - in real-time.

Ohio's famed Buckeye Trail is 'living' proof.

Before the pandemic hit in 2020, the Buckeye Trail Association quietly opened a new trail reroute in its New Straitsville Section that the American Discovery Trail follows. The new route now goes across the BTA's Imhoff Preserve and the adjoining Wayne National Forest.

Three Great Benefits: (1) the reroute takes the trail off-road (Dutch Ridge Road) and adds (2) a new Adirondack-style shelter near (3) a water source - the Dan's Run creek! I know, right?!

This (relatively) new reroute is in our Ohio Segment 8 maps and on our Gaia GPS tracks and waypoints.

Unfortunately, one hiker last week, working off apparent outdated data, missed the turn and bushwhacked her way through to the old route: no harm, but no doubt a pain in the tush.
