Full-time, starting today

After eight years of building Hiking America on nights and weekends, it's now my full-time work.

Full-time, starting today
John Wesley Brett on the American Discovery Trail in Washington, DC

For eight years I built Hiking America on nights and weekends. By day I ran communications for Virginia's #1 school district. Yesterday was my last day there, and this morning Hiking America is the only job I have.

The nights and weekends produced a state-by-state guide to the whole American Discovery Trail, both routes, Delaware to California, each with a turn-by-turn and Gaia GPS data behind it. This summer hikers on the trail sent in 352 new notes from Colorado alone, and they're going into the guides now. On the Great American Rail-Trail, Bernie Krausse walked from the Capitol Reflecting Pool to the Pacific at La Push in 130 days, and his field data is becoming a set of state guides.

Great American tracks are free to anyone. ADT GPS data is for members.

With weekdays, the remaining ADT state guide rebuilds, faster turnaround when you report a washed-out bridge or a closed road, and the Great American state guides with their waypoint layers all move from weekend projects to the work I do every day.

If you're planning a hike for next year, reply and tell me where you're starting. I read every one, and now I have the hours to answer them properly.
