The heat continues unabated across America, and so too the volume of updates to our American Discovery Trail maps and guides. This week, dozens of updates, tips, and suggestions have been added from those Hiking America.

Delaware Segment 1

We start near the Eastern Terminus of the American Discovery Trail, where a new section of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail opened this week. It extends the new rail trail a mile-and-a-half southwest. But it doesn't improve the ADT route, other than making access easier to Tall Pines Campground.

As a result, we are only including the new section as an Alternate Route in our Gaia GPS app now and will include it in the Guide and Maps later.

The project is well over halfway completed – 10 of 17 miles – and will provide an enticing alternative to the current route. It would offer many more off-road miles, more services in Georgetown than Milton, and a shorter distance to reach Redden State Forest.

West Virginia Segment 1 - North Bend Rail Trail

Extensive Hiker Notes have been added for all trail towns along the North Bend Rail Trail in western West Virginia, one of our most popular guides. Included are more than a dozen additional picnic/dispersed camping spots along the 67 miles of trail.

Iowa Segments 1 & 2

As we mentioned last week, 'Clay Hikes' has pushed into Nebraska and dropped off many helpful tips and updates from his walk across Iowa. In addition, he has uploaded two videos of his mid-west hike.

Utah Segment 1

We've updated the Hiker Notes for the town of Garrison to include a new water source you can take advantage of before heading out across the desert. It is probably the last water availability until Milford 91 miles east.  HOWEVER, the Utah Segment 1 guide also includes several locations that have been successful places to cache water.
